Get started with LiveCompare

LiveCompare is an analysis tool for SAP systems. If this is a new installation, your first task is to configure LiveCompare, so that users can log in, connect to the required SAP systems, run analyses, view results, and if required, use the results to help with testing.

Log in as an Administrator

Configuring LiveCompare is done by a user with Administrator privileges, and an account named ‘admin’ is set up when LiveCompare is first installed. Navigate to the LiveCompare URL at:

http://<server name>/livecompare

… to display the logon screen.

If this is the first time you have logged in, enter ‘admin’ in the Username and Password fields, and click Login. You’ll be prompted to change the ‘admin’ password, and the Guided Configuration screen will be displayed.

The screens needed to configure LiveCompare are shown in a tabbed display.

Configure LiveCompare to send emails

The Email tab allows you to configure LiveCompare to send emails. Emails are used by LiveCompare to send notifications and broadcast messages, to report on analysis results, and to allow users to change their password.

Complete the screen fields to specify the settings for your mail server, and click ‘Save’. Then click ‘Send Test Email’ to display the following dialog.

Enter your email address and click ‘Send’. If everything is working correctly, you’ll receive a test email from the LiveCompare server.

Create Users

The Users tab allows you to create LiveCompare user accounts. Each user has a specific role:

  • LiveCompare Editors can develop and run workflows in the Studio interface; they can also run apps.

  • LiveCompare Consumers can run apps and view their results.

To add a user, click Add button. to display the User dialog.

Complete the fields as required and click ‘Save’ to create the user. Repeat the above steps to create additional users.

Create RFC Destinations

Use the RFC Destinations tab to create connections to the SAP systems you will be using with LiveCompare. To add an RFC Destination, click Add button. to display the RFC Destination dialog.

Complete the fields as required, specifying the connection parameters for your SAP system, and click ‘Save’ to create the RFC Destination. It appears in the RFC Destinations tab.

An RFC Destination may be tested to determine whether it will work as expected when used in LiveCompare apps and workflows. In the RFC Destination tab, click the RFC Destination’s Test icon. icon to display the following screen.

  • In the Components tab, verify that the required SAP components have been installed, and that they have a status of ‘Found’.

  • In the Required Authorizations tab, verify that all the required authorizations have a status of ‘Found’. Note that not all the listed authorizations may be required. For example, BW authorizations are not required on non-BW systems.

  • The Users Authorizations tab lists the authorizations assigned to the SAP user account associated with the RFC Destination being tested.

Click ‘Back’ to return to the Guided Configuration screen. Repeat the above steps to create and test additional RFC Destinations.

Create Test Repositories

Use the Test Repositories tab to create connections to the testing tools you will be using with LiveCompare. To add a Test Repository, click Add button. to display the Test Repository dialog.

Select the type of Test Repository you’ll be using, complete the connection details and click ‘Save’ to create the Test Repository.

A Test Repository may be tested to determine whether it will work as expected when used in LiveCompare apps and workflows. In the Test Repository tab, click the RFC Destination’s Test icon. icon to display the following screen.

Verify that connection details are displayed for the Test Repository, and that no errors occurred.

Click ‘Back’ to return to the Guided Configuration screen. Repeat the above steps to create and test additional Test Repositories.

Create a Pipeline

Pipelines store the RFC Destinations and Test Repositories required to perform an impact analysis. To create a Pipeline, click Add button. in the Pipelines tab to display the Pipeline screen.

Complete the screen fields as described here, and click the ‘Save’ button to create the Pipeline.
