Introduction to Resource Groups

LiveCompare allows users with LiveCompare Administrator privileges to define resource groups to determine which workspaces, RFC Destinations, External Data Sources, Pipelines, Test Repositories and LUXes are accessible to each user. Each resource group may contain zero or more users, workspaces, RFC Destinations, External Data Sources, Pipelines, Test Repositories or LUXes.

  • If no resource groups are defined, each user has access to all the workspaces registered in LiveCompare, and all the RFC Destinations, External Data Sources, Pipelines, Test Repositories and LUXes that have been created. The level of access each user has is determined by their role.
  • When the first resource group has been defined, LiveCompare becomes a resource group-controlled application. The level of access each user has is still determined by their role, however each user has access to only those resource groups of which they are a member.
  • If resource groups have been defined and a set of LiveCompare templates is installed, any External Data Sources associated with the templates are added to each of the resource groups.

When LiveCompare is resource group-controlled, users with LiveCompare Editor or Consumer privileges must be assigned to resource groups in order to access workspaces, RFC Destinations, External Data Sources, Pipelines, Test Repositories and LUXes. The accessibility of workspaces, RFC Destinations, External Data Sources, Pipelines, Test Repositories and LUXes is limited as follows:

  • The LiveCompare hierarchy only displays the workspaces, RFC Destinations, External Data Sources, Pipelines, Test Repositories and LUXes available in the currently selected resource group.

  • Users with LiveCompare Editor privileges may edit the details for RFC Destinations, External Data Sources, Pipelines and Test Repositories in the currently selected resource group.

  • The RFC Destinations, External Data Sources, Pipelines, Test Repositories and LUXes available to an app are limited to those included in the currently selected resource group.

If a user with LiveCompare Editor privileges logs in to LiveCompare where resource groups have been defined, a resource group selection list box is displayed in the top right-hand corner of the LiveCompare screen. The user’s currently selected resource group is shown in bold in the LiveCompare hierarchy.

Users with LiveCompare Administrator privileges cannot be added to resource groups and are excluded from resource group control.
