LiveCompare licensing (studio interface)

LiveCompare requires a software license in order to allow apps, workflows and workflow actions to be run. Checking LiveCompare’s license status, requesting a license key and installing the license key must be performed by a user with administrator privileges. Note that if LiveCompare is installed on a machine that does not already have a LiveCompare license, an Enterprise license key that runs for 30 days will be installed automatically.

License tiers

There are three types of LiveCompare license, each providing an increasing amount of functionality. The functionality provided by each license type applies to all LiveCompare users.

Essential license

The Essential license allows restricts users as follows:

Functional area Restriction
apps Users may only run the Smart Impact app.
workflows Users may only run workflows copied from the Prerequisites templates folder.
Test Repositories Users may only create Tosca and qTest Test Repositories.

Professional license

The Professional license provides all the functionality of the Essential license. Additionally, the Professional license allows users to run the Developer Impact Analysis, DIA Wrapper and Initialize Task Store workflows, and to create all types of Test Repository.

Enterprise license

The Enterprise license provides all the functionality of the Professional license. Additionally, the Enterprise license allows users to run all apps and workflows. License keys from releases of LiveCompare earlier than 4.8 provide the same functionality as an Enterprise license.

Check the license status

To check LiveCompare’s license status, carry out the following steps.

  1. Log in as a user with administrator privileges.
  2. Click Studio tool button. in the Guided Configuration screen to access the LiveCompare Studio. The Administration screen is displayed.
  3. Click ‘License Status’ in the Administration screen’s Maintenance section.
  4. The License Status screen displays LiveCompare’s current license status.

Request a license key

To request a license key, carry out the following steps.

  1. Click ‘Request License’ in the License Status screen. The Request License screen is displayed.

  1. Click the link to start a conversation with the Tricentis Virtual Agent on a machine with internet access.

  2. When asked by the Virtual Agent to describe your issue in more detail, copy the text in the License Request Info frame into the chat.

  3. A License Case will be opened at the end of the conversation. You will receive a license file named <Company Name>_<Machine ID>_<Expiration Date>.xml, which contains your license key. Save the file to a folder on your machine.

Install the license key

To install the license key, carry out the following steps.

  1. Click ‘Install License’ in the License Status screen. The Install License screen is displayed.

  1. Click ‘Choose File’, browse for the license file saved to your machine, and click ‘Open’.

  1. Click ‘Install’ to install the license file. The License Status screen displays the current license status, including the license tier, site ID and expiration date.
