Edit or Approve Multiple Data Query Items

To save time, you can use the Data Query feature to edit multiple items, such as requirements or defects, at one time. You can also use the Data Query feature to approve multiple items at once, if you have Approve permissions.

Edit multiple data query items

  1. In the Query Result table, select the check boxes for the items that you want to edit.

  2. Click Edit. Then, in the drop-down menu that appears, click Batch Edit.

  3. The Batch Edit window appears, displaying properties that you can edit for the selected items. To edit a property, select the check box for the property, and then modify the associated fields.

    Refer to Properties on the Batch Edit window, below, for a description of the properties that you can edit on the Batch Edit window.

  4. (Optional) Select the Send out notification emails check box to indicate that email notifications should be sent to each user associated with any of the edited items, altering users that properties for the items have been changed.

  5. Click Confirm to apply the changes to the selected items.

Approve multiple data query items

  1. In the Query Result table, select the check boxes for the items that you want to edit.

  2. Click Edit. Then, in the drop-down menu that appears, click Batch Approve.

  3. (Optional) A window appears, confirming the number of items to be approved. Select the Send out notification emails check box to indicate that email notifications should be sent to each user associated with any of the approved items, altering users that the items have been approved.

  4. Click Confirm to approve the selected items.

Properties on the Batch Edit window

The following properties are available on the Batch Edit window, based on the type of item selected. For example, the Planned Start Date property is only available for test runs. Properties are listed in alphabetical order.

Property Description
Affected Release/Build Select a new affected release or build for the selected items from the drop-down list.
Assigned To Select a new user to assign the selected items to from the drop-down list. You can select multiple users or click Select All to select all users in the list.
Category Select a new category for the selected items from the drop-down list.
Closed Date Select a new closed date and time for the selected items. In the first field, select a new closed date using the calendar tool. In the second field, select a new closed time from the drop-down list.
Description

Edit the descriptions of the selected items. You can choose to edit the descriptions for the items either by finding and replacing text in the descriptions or by directly editing the descriptions of the items.

  • Replace text. Find and replace text in the descriptions of the selected items. This feature is useful if you want to replace only a certain word or phrase in the descriptions of the items.

    For example, suppose the name of a UI feature you are designing changes from the "Login screen" to the "Welcome screen". To quickly change all instances of the "Login screen" in the descriptions of your requirements to the "Welcome screen," select the Replace text option. Then type Login screen in the Find field and Welcome screen in the Replace field.

  • Edit text. Directly edit the descriptions of the selected items. This feature is useful if you want to assign multiple items the same description.

    For example, suppose you have multiple test cases with different descriptions but that all pertain to testing a certain feature for a certain sprint. To make these test cases easily identifiable, you want to use the same description for all of these test cases, such as "Test Feature A for Sprint 10". To edit the description of all of the selected items, select the Edit text option, and then type the new description for the items in the provided field.

Environment Select a new environment for the selected items from the drop-down list.
Execution Type Select a new execution type for the selected items from the drop-down list.
Fixed Release/Build Select a new fixed release or build for the selected items from the drop-down list.
Module Select a new module for the selected items from the drop-down list.
Name

Precondition

Edit the preconditions of the selected items. You can choose to edit the preconditions for the items either by finding and replacing text in the preconditions or by directly editing the preconditions of the items.

  • Replace text. Find and replace text in the preconditions of the selected items. This feature is useful if you want to replace only a certain word or phrase in the preconditions of the items.

    For example, suppose you want to change the precondition of certain requirements to need to process at a rate of 10,000 per second instead of a rate of 9,000 per second. To quickly change all instances of "9,000" in the preconditions of your requirements to "10,000," select the Replace text option. Then type 9,000 in the Find field and 10,000 in the Replace field.

  • Edit text. Directly edit the preconditions of the selected items. This feature is useful if you want to assign multiple items the same precondition.

    For example, suppose you have multiple test cases with preconditions that are indicating the same meaning but are all worded quite differently. To use the same precondition text for all of these test cases, you can edit the preconditions of all of the selected items. To do so, select the Edit text option, and then type the new description for the items in the provided field.

Planned End Date Select a new planned end date for the selected items using the calendar tool.
Planned Start Date Select a new planned start date for the selected items using the calendar tool.
Planned Time Type a new planned time for the selected items, in minutes.
Priority Select a new priority for the selected items from the drop-down list.
Reason Select a new reason for the selected items from the drop-down list.
Root Cause Select a new root cause for the selected items from the drop-down list.
Severity Select a new severity for the selected items from the drop-down list.
Status Select a new status for the selected items from the drop-down list.
Summary

    For example, suppose the name of a UI feature you are designing changes from the "Login screen" to the "Welcome screen". To quickly change all instances of the "Login screen" in the summaries of your requirements to the "Welcome screen," select the Replace text option. Then type Login screen in the Find field and Welcome screen in the Replace field.
