New Project

With the exception of the selection options on the first page, the content of this dialog is identical to that of the Project Settings dialog. The other difference is that the New Project dialog does not have any tabs, but instead allows you to move from page to page like in a wizard.

For this reason, only the first page is described here - the subsequent pages are the same as for the Project Settings dialog.

Project Type Selector

Allows you to select a project type.

The following project types are available: Default Project, XML Project, CSV Project, ODBC Project.

With the exception of Default Project, these projects contain simple predefined patterns for data output or generating ODBC inserts. In addition, Tricentis TDM Studio offers predefined templates and tasks for generating data which can easily be customized and extended by the user. The structure of these patterns and the output options that they provide can help users when they first start to work with Tricentis TDM Studio.

New Project

The main features of the different project types are summarized in the following table:

Project type

Action

Data generation

Default Project

A project with the basic elements.

Only possible after the user has created templates and tasks.

Base Project

A basic project, containing one task with a frame and a template.

Immediately possible, but the template should be customized.

CSV Project

A project with predefined templates and tasks to generate CSV output.

Immediately possible.

The file Example_<Date>_<Time>.csv is generated.

XML Project

A project with predefined templates and tasks to generate XML output.

Immediately possible.

The file Example_<Date>_<Time>.xml is generated.

ODBC Project

A project with predefined templates and tasks to generate an ODBC insert.

Not immediately possible, since the user has to enter the specific connection data (variable connectionString). In addition the target for the data must exist.

Comment field for the selected project type

This field shows information about the selected project type.

Project Name

The name of the project is entered here. The project name must be a valid file name. This means that may only contain characters that can also be used in file names. This is a mandatory field.

The default name is Project plus an incremental number, e.g. Project1. Tricentis TDM Studio checks whether the name already exists in the project directory. The default name can be overwritten.

Project Directory

The directory into which the project will be saved. All project files such as templates, tasks, etc. will be saved to this directory. A default directory is provided, but this can be changed. You can enter the target directory directly into the field, or you can select it by clicking on the browse button (...). The selection appears in the field. Selecting a project directory is mandatory.
