This chapter covers the installation process of Tricentis Tosca and describes how to customize Tosca.

To ensure full functionality, make sure that you have installed the latest Windows updates of the category Critical (Windows7,8) or Quality (Windows10).

To install Tricentis Tosca, local administrator rights are required. To use Tricentis Tosca, write permission is required for the directory %TRICENTIS_PROJECTS%.

The installation file TOSCA<version number>.exe contains all components of Tricentis Tosca. To access the installation file, refer to the Tricentis Support Portal.

This chapter describes the installation process by using the default installation type Tosca Commander (see chapter "Select the Setup Type").

Any existing Tosca installation can be modified or uninstalled when the installation file TOSCA<version number>.exe of the same version is started.

For further information on software versions and hardware requirements, refer to the System Requirements.

Tosca Commander AddIns

The AddIns Tosca TestCase-Design, Tosca Reporting and Tosca Requirements Management are installed automatically upon the Tricentis Tosca default installation.

Objects of AddIns that require a separate license are visible in Tosca Commander, but cannot be edited. For detailed information regarding Tosca AddIns, refer to the corresponding documentation.

Tosca Commander API

Tricentis Tosca contains a programming interface which allows workspaces to be opened and data to be retrieved from Tosca Commander, manipulated or newly created. The documentation is provided as a .chm file and can be found in the following directory: %COMMANDER_HOME%\TCAPI.chm .

In addition, you are able to extend the functionality, such as additional menu entries, drag and drop operations, etc. The documentation can be found in the same directory, in the TCAddOns.chm file.

The Tosca Commander API requires a separate license which has to be specifically requested. Please contact your sales agent for further information.

Tosca Commander versions 32-bit and 64-bit - differences

The application runs in 32 or 64-bit mode, depending on whether Tosca Commander is started in a 64-bit or 32-bit operating system.

The directory %COMMANDER_HOME% includes the following executable files that are processor-independent:

  • TOSCACommander.exe

  • TCShell.exe

  • DbRepositorySchemaMigrator.exe

Program files with the extension *X86.exe are required if an application should be run in 32-bit on a 64-bit system.

For a more detailed list of supported systems, refer to the System Requirements.

64-bit support for DB2 repositories

DB2 repositories are supported by default under Tosca Commander 32-bit. 64-bit installations require an entry to be added to the corresponding configuration file.

  • ToscaCommander.exe.config

  • TCShell.exe.config

  • TOSCARemoteCommander.exe.config

The entry must be added between the following tags: </applicationSettings> and </configuration>.

<runtime>

<assemblyBinding xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1">

<dependentAssembly>

<assemblyIdentity name="IBM.Data.DB2" publicKeyToken="7c307b91aa13d208" culture="" />

<bindingRedirect oldVersion="8.0.0.0-9.0.0.1" newVersion="9.0.0.2" />

</dependentAssembly>

</assemblyBinding>

</runtime>

One configuration file must be created for each of the following programs: TDMObjectEditor.exe, DbRepositorySchemaMigrator.exe and TCAPI programs, e.g. TDMObjectEditor.exe.config.

File content:

<?xml version="1.0"?>

<configuration>

<runtime>

<assemblyBinding xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1">

<dependentAssembly>

<assemblyIdentity name="IBM.Data.DB2" publicKeyToken="7c307b91aa13d208" culture="" />

<bindingRedirect oldVersion="8.0.0.0-9.0.0.1" newVersion="9.0.0.2" />

<codeBase version="9.0.0.2" href="C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\DB2DSDriver\bin\netf20\IBM.Data.DB2.dll"/>

</dependentAssembly>

</assemblyBinding>

</runtime>

</configuration>

Restrictions in the 64-bit mode

The 64-bit compatibility applies exclusively to  Tosca Commander and the standard AddIns (Tosca Requirements, Tosca TestCase-Design, Tosca Reporting, and Tosca Structured Objects).

Restrictions concerning the Reporting AddIn

Reports which have been created with Crystal Reports can neither be read out nor modified.
