Update qTest links

You can integrate Tricentis Tosca and qTest (see chapter "Tosca qTest integration").

To do so effectively, you need to link Tricentis Tosca objects to qTest. Tricentis Tosca is where you automate your tests. Linking them allows you to keep an overview of their results in qTest (see chapter "Link with qTest").

You can update existing links if you, for instance, change the name of a TestEvent, or if you want to link a TestCase to a different qTest Module.

What can you update?

You can update TestCases and TestEvents.

Note that if you remove objects from a TestEvent, updating the link does not remove the corresponding objects from qTest. In this case, you need to unlink the TestEvent in Tosca, delete the TestEvent in qTest, and re-link the TestEvent in Tosca.

When can you update?

You can update links once they are live in qTest.

For a link to go live, you have to perform the following actions (see chapter "Link with qTest"):

  • Go through the linking dialog to save the information in Tricentis Tosca.

  • Check in (multi-user workspace) or save (single-user workspace) to transfer the information to qTest. Only then does the link go live.

For instance, if you work in a multi-user environment, you cannot go through the linking dialog and then immediately update this link. You have to check in first.

How often can you link an object?

You can only have one link per object.

You can't link the same Tricentis Tosca object to multiple qTest objects. Whenever you update a link, Tricentis Tosca overwrites the old information.

Let's say you link a TestCase to a qTest Module named Create Contact. If you update the link and create a link to the Module Edit Contact, Tricentis Tosca removes the link from Create Contact. The TestCase is then only linked to Edit Contact.

Update an existing link

To update an existing link, follow the steps below:

  1. In Tricentis Tosca, select the object whose link you want to update.

  2. Right-click the selected object and select Update in qTest from the context menu.

This opens the Update in qTest dialog, where you can perform the following actions:

    • Log in with different qTest access credentials, if needed.

Tricentis Tosca remembers your login credentials, so if you want to sign in as a different user, enter the respective credentials and click Save and Refresh.

    • Select a different qTest project from the Select qTest Project drop-down menu.

    • For TestCases: select a different Module from the Select qTest Module list.

If you don't select a different Module, for instance if you only want to update the TestCase name, the TestCase stays in the same location in qTest.

Update an existing TestCase link

  1. Click Link.

  2. In the confirmation dialog, confirm your selection with OK.

This saves the information in Tricentis Tosca.

In a single-user workspace, you can save your workspace now, directly in the dialog. This transfers the updated information to qTest.

  3. To transfer the updated information to qTest, perform the following actions:

    • In a multi-user workspace, click Checkin All.

    • In a single-user workspace, save your workspace. This is only necessary if you haven't saved the workspace in the confirmation dialog.

You can only update objects in one qTest instance per checkin or save.

Let's say you have two TestCases and two qTest instances:

  • You want to update TestCase A in qTest instance A.

  • You want to update TestCase B in qTest instance B.

In this case, you need to update TestCase A and check in your objects (multi-user workspace) or save your workspace (single-user workspace).

After that, repeat the process for TestCase B.

Once you have updated the link and transferred the information to qTest, Tricentis Tosca updates the affected object properties.
