Set up Tricentis Tosca

This chapter contains an overview of all tasks that administrators need to perform to set up Tricentis Tosca for users.

Download the installation packages

Get the following installation packages from the download area of the Tricentis Support Portal:

  1. Tricentis Tosca : Tricentis_Tosca_13.4.zip

  2. If you want to use the Tricentis Tosca Server : Tosca_Server_13.4.zip

You only need the Tricentis Tosca Server if you want to use any or all of the Tricentis Tosca Server features.

Note that the Tricentis Tosca Server and Tricentis Tosca must have the same version number.

  3. If you want to use on-premise licensing: Tricentis License Server <version number>.zip

Tricentis Tosca offers the following licensing categories:

    • On-Premise Licensing: floating licensing via your own, on-premise license server.

The on-premise Tricentis License Server has its own setup and is released independently from Tricentis Tosca or Tosca Server. For information on the latest version number, see the License Server documentation.

    • Cloud Licensing: floating licensing via Cloud-hosted license server.

  4. If you want to use Tosca OSV: Tosca_OSV_13.4.zip

This step is only necessary if you want to use any or all of the Tricentis Tosca Server features.

You can install in one of the following ways:

    • Via setup dialog.

    • In unattended mode. In this case, the setup completes the installation without user interaction.

  6. If you do install Tricentis Tosca Server, ensure that all required ports are available (see chapter "Ports required by the Tricentis Tosca Server features").

  8. If you want to use Tosca OSV, perform the installation as described in the Tosca OSV manual.

Set up Tricentis Tosca for users

To set up Tricentis Tosca for users, follow the steps below:

  1. Administer your licenses (see chapter "License administration").

Tricentis Tosca components are licensed in editions. To work with Tricentis Tosca, users need the respective licenses on their machines.

  2. Create the work environment for users (see chapter "Create and manage workspaces").

The work environment in Tricentis Tosca is a so-called workspace. This workspace is made up of various sections in which you create, design, and run your tests.

You can create two different kinds of workspaces:

    • Create single-user workspaces if only one person needs access to data.

    • Create multi-user workspaces if several people need access to the same data. In this case, you have several workspaces on several machines; one workspace per machine. All workspaces are connected to one common repository.

Multi-user workspaces simplify your data administration since you save all project data to one central location. A check in / check out mechanism ensures that users don't interfere with each others work.

  3. Create and manage users (see chapter "Administrate users and user groups").

Tricentis Tosca offers two types of user management:

    • Tosca Commander user management if you want to manage multiple users for a specific project.

    • Tricentis User Administration if you want to centrally manage multiple users across multiple projects.

You need to install the Tricentis Tosca Server to use Tricentis User Administration.
