Execute manual tests

If you execute your tests manually, you need to process the results in the Tricentis Tosca Checklist window. You can also perform additional steps in the Checklist window, such as adding comments or attaching files and screenshots.

The Checklist window transfers all results to Tosca Commander.

Launch the Checklist window

You can launch the Checklist window from one of the following objects in the Execution section:

To do so, right-click the respective object and select Run as Manual TestCase from the context menu.

Launch manual execution of ExecutionList

The Checklist window shows one TestCase or TestStep at a time; the title bar displays the name of ExecutionList this TestCase belongs to.

For detailed information on settings that might be useful for the manual execution of your tests, see chapter "Settings - Manual Test Execution".

Process manual tests in the Checklist window

Once you have performed a TestStep or TestStepValue action in the system under test, you set the result in the Checklist window. The Result column indicates the execution state of a TestStep or TestStepValue: Passed or Failed.

The Checklist window offers the following processing options:

Option

Description

Set Passed

Available in the menu bar and in the Result column.

Set a TestStep or TestStepValue to Passed. Alternatively, you can press Enter.

You can pass multiple TestSteps or TestStepValues at once. To do so, set a TestStep or TestStepValue further down the list to Passed. Tricentis Tosca automatically passes the selected and all preceding TestSteps or TestStepValues.

If you don't want testers to use this functionality, disable the setting MultiPassing.

Set Failed

Available in the menu bar and in the Result column.

Set a TestStep or TestStepValue to Failed. Alternatively, you can press Ctrl + Enter.

Finish TestCase Execution

Transfer results from the Checklist window to Tosca Commander once you have processed all TestSteps.

If you set a TestStep or TestStepValue to Failed, you can finish the execution immediately. In this case, Tosca Commander sets the entire ExecutionEntry to Failed.

When you click Finish TestCase Execution, Tricentis Tosca either closes the Checklist window or loads the next TestCase in the ExecutionList.

Pause execution

Pause the execution of a TestCase. This option is available for the following objects:

In Tosca Commander, the Loginfo column of the linked ExecutionEntry indicates its paused state. To resume the execution, use one of the following options from the context menu of the paused ExecutionEntry: Resume, Resume as Manual TestCase, or Resume from here.

You can also delete the TestCaseLog and reset the paused state to that of an un-executed ExecutionEntry via the context menu option Reset paused state.

If you don't want testers to use the pausing function, disable the setting PausingEnabled. You can also define that individual TestCases can't be paused by setting the TestCase property Pausable to False.

Enable automation

Available for TestSteps created from Classic Modules that contain all relevant information for control steering: an ObjectMap and ObjectControls.

If your first TestStep is a manual TestStep, you can switch from manual to automated test execution.

The first TestStep has to be processed manually. Once you have done so, Tricentis Tosca commences the automated execution of all subsequent TestSteps.

Inject Data Value

Available for TestSteps or TestStepValues with the ActionMode Input.

Inject Data Value sends the Value of the currently selected TestStep or TestStepValue to the system under test. Alternatively, you can press F6.

Edit

Add a comment to the TestStep or TestStepValue. Tosca Commander displays the comment in the Loginfo column.

Attach File

Attach a file to the TestStep or TestStepValue. Tosca Commander displays the attached file in the Detail column.

Make screenshot

Take a screenshot and add it to the TestStep or TestStepValue. Define where Tricentis Tosca should save the screenshot in the setting ScreenshotDirectory.

Tosca Commander displays the screenshot in the Detail column.

Clear results

Clear the result of the selected and all subsequent TestSteps or TestStepValues.

This icon is available if you hover over the Passed or Failed icon of a processed TestStep or TestStepValue.
