Upgrade Tosca Server and its features

This chapter contains information on how to upgrade the Tricentis Tosca Server and all its features from version 13.4 to version 14.0.

Licensing

Since the release of Tricentis Tosca 12.0, the Tricentis License Server is released independently of Tosca Server and Tosca Commander. For information on Tricentis License Server versions and upgrading, see chapter "Upgrade the Tricentis License Server".

Preparatory steps

Before you upgrade the Tosca Server, you need to create backup files for the Tosca Server features that you use.

Once you start the upgrade, the installation removes all user defined settings. You can refer to your backup files to re-configure your settings during the installation.

Tosca License Administration

If you use Tosca License Administration, create a backup of the Tosca License Administration Web.config file.

This file is located at C:\Program Files (x86)\TRICENTIS\Tosca Server\LicenseAdministration.

Tosca Administration Console (includes Tricentis User Administration)

If you use Tosca Administration Console, create a backup of the Tosca Administration Console appsettings.json file.

This file is located at C:\Program Files (x86)\TRICENTIS\Tosca Server\ToscaAdministrationConsole.

For information on how to back up and restore Tricentis Authentication Service, see chapter "Back up and restore Tricentis Authentication Service".

Tosca Distributed Execution Monitor (includes Tosca Distributed Execution Monitor)

If you use Tosca Distributed Execution Monitor, create a backup of the Tosca Distributed Execution Monitor Web.config file.

This file is located at C:\Program Files (x86)\TRICENTIS\Tosca Server\DEXServer.

Interactive Testing

If you use Interactive Testing, create a backup of the Interactive Testing appsettings.json file.

These files are located at C:\Program Files (x86)\TRICENTIS\Tosca Server\InteractiveTestingStandalone.

Tricentis File Service

If you use the Tricentis File Service, create a backup of the Tricentis File Service appsettings.json file.

The file is located at C:\Program Files (x86)\TRICENTIS\Tosca Server\FileService.

Tricentis Test Data Service

If you use Tricentis Test Data Service, create a backup of the Tricentis Test Data Service appsettings.json file.

This file is located at C:\Program Files (x86)\TRICENTIS\Tosca Server\TestDataService.

Exploratory Testing Server

If you use the Exploratory Testing Server, create a backup of the Exploratory Testing Server Web.config file.

This file is located at C:\Program Files (x86)\TRICENTIS\Tosca Server\ExploratoryTestingServer.

Tosca REST API Service

If you use the Tosca REST API Service, create a backup of the Tosca REST API Service Web.config file.

This file is located at C:\Program Files (x86)\TRICENTIS\Tosca Server\RESTApi.

Upgrade Tosca Server

To upgrade the Tosca Server, follow the steps below:

  1. Uninstall the old version of Tosca Server. This also removes user defined settings.

  2. Start the Tosca Server upgrade by executing the setup file ToscaServerversion 14.0.exe.

  3. Follow the installation process described in chapter "Install Tosca Server via setup dialog".

You can refer to your backup files to configure your settings during the installation.

On systems using IIS 7.5, the operating system will be restarted during the installation.

If you encounter unexpected behavior in a Tricentis Tosca Server feature after the upgrade, compare the backed up Web.config or appsettings.json file of the respective feature with the upgraded version.

Do not replace the version 14.0 Web.config or appsettings.json files with your backup files.
