Perform standalone testing

The Interactive Testing Agent allows testers to attend interactive test sessions without having to install Tosca Commander on their machines.

The interactive test manager, who is the session owner, can assign existing Tosca users or non-Tosca users to TestCases that they can test.

Test managers send interactive testing invites from Tosca Commander to the testers by e-mail. Invited testers perform interactive tests and transfer their test results to the test manager once interactive testing has finished.

Prerequisites

The following prerequisites apply for test managers and interactive testers:

Test manager:

  • Install Tosca Commander.

  • Install the Interactive Testing Server during the Tosca Server installation.

  • Define the ServerEndpointAddress in the setting Tricentis Services.

  • Ask the administrator to define the Storage Directory Path for Tricentis File Service in Tricentis Service Configuration. This is necessary because interactive testers have the option to add attachments and record interactions during interactive testing. These attachments and recorded screenshots are saved to Tricentis File Service.

  • Configure any mail service, for example, Microsoft Outlook, to have an account set up in order to send session invites. Note that you can only send session invites, if you add your mail account to the mail service.

In case you can't use a mail service, make sure that you don't have any installed on your computer. In this case, you receive a .txt file with the session details that you have to share with the interactive testers.

Process

  1. In Tosca Commander, the test manager (session owner) assigns one or more interactive testers to TestCases (see chapter "Add testers to a session").

  2. The test manager must synchronize the data of an interactive session, including all test cases to the web (Interactive Testing Server) before inviting interactive testers (see chapter "Synchronize session data").

  3. The test manager sends interactive testing invites from Tosca Commander to the testers by e-mail (see chapter "Invite new testers").

  4. The interactive testers receive an e-mail with the invitation.

  5. Once a tester clicks on the TestCase link in the e-mail, the system establishes a connection to the Interactive Testing Server and retrieves the session details (see chapter "Install the Interactive Testing Agent via the Auto Installer").

  6. The Interactive Testing Agent starts to download automatically from the server. If the tester has already installed the standalone application previously, the application simply opens.

  7. Testers use the Interactive Testing Agent to run their TestCases (see chapter "Execute TestCases").

  8. When interactive testers finish the testing, they end the session and upload the test results to the Interactive Testing Server. Interactive testers then inform the test manager that they have completed their sessions (see chapter "Update test results from Interactive Testing Agent").

  9. The test manager synchronizes the test results into Tosca Commander (see chapter "Synchronize session data").
