Install Tricentis Tosca

This chapter gives an overview of the Tricentis Tosca installation.

To get an overview of all tasks that administrators need to perform to set up Tricentis Tosca for users, see chapter "Set up Tricentis Tosca".

Prerequisites

To install and work with Tricentis Tosca, you must fulfill the following requirements:

  • You have the necessary software and hardware listed in the Tricentis Tosca system requirements.

  • You have downloaded the Tricentis Tosca installation package (see chapter "Download the installation packages"). The package contains the installation file Tricentis Tosca 15.1.0.exe.

  • You have local administrator rights, which you need to install Tricentis Tosca.

  • The user of the machine on which you install Tricentis Tosca has write permission for the directory %TRICENTIS_PROJECTS%. By default, the directory path is C:\Tosca_Projects. The user needs this permission to work with Tricentis Tosca.

Installation process

You can install Tricentis Tosca in one of the following ways:

During installation, Tricentis Tosca installs all default AddIns. For some of these AddIns, for instance Requirements Management, you need a separate license.

If you don't have a license for a particular AddIn, you can view its objects in Tricentis Tosca, but you can't edit them.

Manage settings

If you want to adjust specific settings for individual work stations after the installation, Tricentis recommends that you first perform a prototype installation on one machine.

By default, Tricentis Tosca stores settings files at C:\Program Files(x86)\TRICENTIS\Tosca Testsuite\. This directory contains the following sub-directories (see chapter " Hierarchy of the Settings Files"):

  • DistributedExecution\Settings for Tosca Distributed Executions

  • Licensing\Settings\ for Licensing

  • TBox\Settings\ for Engines 3.0

  • Classic\dll\Settings\XML\ for general Tricentis Tosca settings

You can then copy the settings files into the corresponding directory on the target computers. This allows you to configure settings which you cannot configure during the installation process. These are managed directly by the central software administration.

Use DB2 repositories

Tricentis Tosca in 32-bit supports DB2 repositories by default.

If you want to use DB2 repositories in 64-bit installations, you need to perform additional steps after you have installed Tricentis Tosca. For more information, see chapter "Use DB2 repositories in 64-bit installations".

Run Tricentis Tosca in 32-bit on 64-bit systems

You can run Tricentis Tosca in 32-bit on a 64-bit operating system. In this case, you need to manually start Tricentis Tosca, TC-Shell, or the schema migration if you want to use them.

To do so, double-click the following executable files, which are located in %COMMANDER_HOME%:

  • TOSCACommanderX86.exe

  • TCShellX86.exe

  • DbRepositorySchemaMigratorX86.exe

Maintain the installation

You can modify, repair, or uninstall Tricentis Tosca. For more information, see chapter "Maintain the Tricentis Tosca installation".
