Save settings and buffers to the local workspace

Tricentis Tosca stores information in different settings files (see chapter " Hierarchy of the Settings Files").

If you are working with Windows Server, you need to ensure that the changes you make to your settings apply to you only. Otherwise, you will overwrite the settings other testers have defined for their workspaces.

To do so, you need to write all settings changes exclusively into the WorkspaceSettings.xml.

For instance, you want to increase the number of TestCase retries. If you change the setting value and do not write this into the WorkspaceSettings.xml file, you will also change the number of TestCase retries in the other testers' workspaces.

To avoid overwriting settings of other testers' workspaces, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the settings dialog at Project->Settings.

  2. To see which settings file Tricentis Tosca uses for a particular setting, add the column Settings File via the Column Chooser:

    • Right-click into the settings header and select Column Chooser from the context menu.

    • Double-click on Settings File.

Open the Column Chooser

  1. Navigate to the setting you want to change. If the Settings File column indicates that the setting is written to WorkspaceSettings.xml, you can change your setting and close the settings dialog.

If the Settings File column indicates any other settings file, continue with step 4.

  2. Right-click the setting and select Override from the context menu.

  3. In the subsequent dialog, perform the following actions:

    • Enter a new value for your setting into the Value entry field.

    • Select the Workspacesettings.xml file from the Save in dropdown menu.

    Click OK to confirm.

Override the setting TestCase retries and save it to the workspace settings file

Save the Buffer collection

You may want to use different buffers in each workspace. In this case, you need to make sure to save the whole buffer collection to your local workspace settings file.

To do so, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to Project->Settings->Engine.

  2. Right-click Buffer and select Override from the context menu.

Save the buffer collection to your local workspace settings file

  1. In the subsequent dialog, select the Workspacesettings.xml file from the Save in dropdown menu.

  2. Click OK to confirm.
