Disable Tricentis File Service

Tricentis File Service is a web-based application that stores your Tosca Commander files in a separate file system. This keeps workspaces slim and improves their performance.

By default, Tricentis File Service and its auto-removal functionality are enabled for every new project that you add to the Tosca Administration Console. If you don't want to use Tricentis File Service, you can turn it off.

What's in this topic?

This topic is for administrators. It has all the information you need to complete the following tasks:

  • Understand what happens when you turn off Tricentis File Service.

  • Prepare your workspace for the file migration.

  • Turn off Tricentis File Service.

What happens when you turn off Tricentis File Service

When you turn off Tricentis File Service, Tosca performs the following actions:

  • It migrates all files except execution log files and embeds them in Tosca Commander. Click here for information on how to access and work with embedded files.

  • It keeps your results in Tosca Commander.

Note: Tosca doesn't migrate execution logs and their corresponding screenshots from Tricentis File Service to Tosca Commander. You can still see whether old test runs were successful or not, but you don't get detailed result logs. If you want to keep those, export a subset when you prepare your workspace for the migration. Then, import it after you have turned off Tricentis File Service.

  • The file system itself and the files in the file system remain. Turning off Tricentis File Service doesn't delete either.

Don't delete files directly from the Tricentis File Service file system. It's risky, especially if you have other projects where Tricentis File Service is still turned on. If you're concerned about disk space, please contact Tricentis Support.

Prepare your workspace

Before you turn off Tricentis File Service, make sure that your workspace is up-to-date and clean:

  1. Double-check your synchronization policies. Tricentis Tosca only migrates files to objects that are included in the workspace.

  2. Search your workspace for lost objects and remove them. If you don't, Tricentis Tosca may run into issues when it tries to embed files.

  3. Ensure that all users have checked in their changes.

  4. Update your workspace to get the changes.

Alternatively, you can search for objects that are currently checked out and revoke the checkout. However, you lose all changes that the user who checked out the object has made to it.

If you still want to proceed, use the following TQL query on the project root: ->AllOwnedSubItems[CheckOutState == "CheckedOut"]. Then, right-click the search results and select Revoke Checkout from the context menu.

  5. Check in your own changes.

  6. Tosca doesn't migrate execution logs and their corresponding screenshots from Tricentis File Service to Tosca Commander. If you want to keep detailed result logs, export a subset of your test runs. You can import it after you have turned off Tricentis File Service.

Turn off Tricentis File Service

You understand the migration and you've prepared your workspace. To turn off Tricentis File Service in a particular project, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure you are a Tosca Commander admin user. Only admin users can disable Tricentis File Service.

  2. Open a workspace that's connected to the project.

  3. Right-click the project root element and select Disable File Service from the context menu.

  4. In the subsequent confirmation dialog, click OK.

This migrates the files into Tosca Commander. Depending on how many files you store in the file system, the task might take some time.

If you accidentally run the Disable File Service task, you can undo it before you check in. To do so, click Undo in the quick access toolbar.

Don't use Revert all. If you use Revert all, the files go back to Tricentis File Service, but Tricentis File Service is still disabled. In this case, you need to go back into the Tosca Administration Console and enable Tricentis File Service.

  5. If you have exported a subset with detailed execution logs, import the subset.

  6. Check in. Once you check in, it's no longer possible to undo or revert the "disable" task. The files are migrated, and Tricentis File Service is disabled.

Handle missing files after the migration

If you disabled Tricentis File Service and Tosca didn't migrate all files, you can still migrate the missing files.

Keep in mind that when you disable Tricentis File Service, Tosca migrates all files except execution logs and their corresponding screenshots. You can't migrate execution log data at all.

To migrate other missing files after you have disabled Tricentis File Service, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that Tricentis File Service is available.

  2. Right-click the project root element and select Migrate from File Service from the context menu.

  3. Check in.
