Create an ExecutionList

ExecutionLists allow you to to prepare and arrange multiple TestCases for execution. Test results persist, so you can check your progress over time. Moreover, you can visualize and export test outcomes.

You prepare and modify your ExecutionLists in the Execution tab in Tosca Commander.

Create a new ExecutionList

The quickest way to create an ExecutionList is to drag and drop a TestCase or a TestCases folder onto the ExecutionLists object.

By default, you can drag and drop the same TestCase onto the same ExecutionList only once.

For information on how to run the same TestCase multiple times within the same ExecutionList, see chapter "Execute TestCases multiple times".

Tosca Commander automatically creates the following objects:

ExecutionList

You can rename the newly created ExecutionList if needed.

ActualLog

Once you execute your ExecutionList, the ActualLog contains the overall results of the last test run.

As soon as you create an ExecutionList, Tosca Commander immediately adds an (empty) ActualLog.

ExecutionEntry folder

If you drag and drop a TestCases folder, Tosca Commander creates a linked ExecutionEntry folder. This folder contains all ExecutionEntries.

ExecutionEntry

Tosca Commander creates an ExecutionEntry for every TestCase you drag onto an ExecutionList.

The icon next to the name of the ExecutionEntry indicates the TestCaseWorkstate of the corresponding TestCase:

  • ExecutionEntry for a TestCase with the Workstate PLANNED

  • ExecutionEntry for a TestCase with the Workstate COMPLETED

  • ExecutionEntry for a TestCase with the Workstate IN_WORK

You can delete any object by pressing the Del key.

You can also synchronize your ExecutionList with the linked TestCases folder. For information on how to do, see chapter "Synchronize TestCases and ExecutionLists".

Organize your tests in a folder structure

Alternatively, you can set up a folder structure to arrange your Execution section before you start creating ExecutionLists. This allows you to organize your tests, which is especially helpful if you need to create ExecutionLists out of TestCases from a variety of folders.

Create ExecutionLists folders

You can create new ExecutionLists folders within the Execution folder or within other ExecutionLists folders.

  • To create a new ExecutionLists folder within the Execution folder, right-click the Execution folder and select Create ExecutionLists Folder from the mini toolbar.

  • To create a new ExecutionLists folder within another ExecutionLists folder, right-click the ExecutionLists folder and select Create Folder from the mini toolbar.

Create an ExecutionLists folder within another ExecutionLists folder

Create empty ExecutionLists

You can create empty ExecutionLists within ExecutionLists folders.

To do so, right-click an ExecutionLists folder and select Create ExecutionList from the mini toolbar.

Create ExecutionList subfolders

You can create subfolders within ExecutionLists.

To do so, right-click an ExecutionList and select Create Folder from the mini toolbar.

Create an empty ExecutionEntry folder

These subfolders are not linked to any TestCase folder.

If you drag and drop a TestCase folder onto it, Tosca Commander creates a linked ExecutionEntry folder underneath.
