Update scanned Modules

If your application changes, you can rescan existing user interface Modules.

This allows you to update the Module with new information. For instance if:

  • The screen you scanned has new controls

  • The technical properties of the controls have changed

  • The controls themselves have changed, e.g. there are new options in the menu you scanned

If you make changes to a Module, RPA Studio automatically updates all Steps that you created from this Module. It also applies the same specifications to all Steps that you create from the Module in the future.

Handle deleted controls

If a control no longer exists at all, it's faster to just delete the respective ModuleAttribute from the Module than to rescan the Module.

Perform the rescan

To update a scanned Module, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the screen that you scanned to create the Module.

  2. In RPA Studio, right-click the Module or the Step in the Bot where you used that Module.

  3. Select Rescan UI from the context menu, or click Rescan UI in the RPA menu.

This opens the Rescan window, which offers the same options as the Advanced View of the user interface scan.

The list shows all controls that exist on the screen. Grayed-out entries with a check mark are already part of the Module.

Rescan window

  1. If the screen has new controls that you want to add to your Module, add them by selecting the respective check box on the list.

  2. The Unmapped Controls section of the Rescan window lists all controls that the Bot can't find. You can map these controls to controls that are not yet part of the Module.

This is only possible if both controls are of the same type. For instance, you can map text-boxes to text-boxes, but not to drop-down menus.

To map a control, follow the steps below:

    • Click on  Map next to the respective control in the Unmapped Controls section.

    • In the subsequent remapping screen, select the control to which you want to map it.

    • In the menu, click on Done.

Mapping process: Remap the control Register me!

  1. You can also remap controls if the control itself still exists, but does something different than when you first scanned it. For instance if the architecture of your application has changed.

    • You can remap a control that's part of the Module to a control that's not yet part of the Module.

To do so, click on  Remap. This takes you to the remapping screen described in step 4.

    • If you want to "switch" the mapping between two controls that are already part of the Module, you need to unmap them first.

To do so, click on Unmap. Then map the controls as described in step 4.

Remap and unmap icons

  1. To save, press CTRL + S or click on the Save icon in the top left corner of the window.

  2. Exit the scan by clicking on the menu button Close.
