Create tests

To create a stable, effective set of tests, you need to create stable, effective test cases.

A test case is a series of automated test actions for a specific workflow in your application. It verifies whether your application fulfills all success criteria that your QA team has defined for this workflow—and whether your users will have a good experience after you release. For information on how to build good test cases, check out our best practices for test case content.

Choose your approach to creating tests

Tricentis Tosca offers different approaches to creating tests:

  • Create tests with Cloud Scanner. Cloud Scanner is our zero-footprint solution for simple, one-off web tests. It's an easy, intuitive tool to get familiar with Tosca's most important tasks and concepts. With Cloud Scanner, you scan and create your test case at the same time.

  • Create tests with Tosca XScan. Tosca XScan is our all-purpose solution for any degree of complexity in your application or tests. It's a powerful tool to create a low-maintenance, end-to-end test suite. With Tosca XScan, you first scan your application and then create your test case.

For detailed information on important differences between the two approaches, check out Cloud Scanner vs. Tosca XScan.

Note: Cloud Scanner is a beta feature. If you'd like participate in this beta, join our Design Partners Program (opens in new tab). We'll reach out to you.

Get started

You've made your decision, and your administrator has set up your organization's environment accordingly. Excellent! What happens next depends on your chosen approach:

Export modules from Tricentis Tosca on-prem

If you already work with Tricentis Tosca on-prem, you can easily import your existing Modules to Tricentis Tosca in the cloud without having to scan your application first. For information on how to do that, check out Export modules from Tricentis Tosca on-prem.

Share between workspaces

By default, all test case objects you create are only available in the workspace you create them in. For information on how to share test cases and their design elements with other workspaces, check out Export and import between workspaces.
