Install an on-premise license server
An on-premise license server offers you floating licensing via your own license server. This server does not have to be connected to the internet.
To install your own on-premise license server, download the file Tricentis License Server<version number>.msi from the Tricentis Support Hub. The current version is Tricentis License Server 5.0.
You can perform the installation in one of the following ways:
-
via setup dialog as described in chapter "Install Tricentis License Server via setup dialog".
-
via command prompt as described in chapter "Install Tricentis License Server via command prompt", if you want to install the license server on multiple clients simultaneously.
To install the Tricentis License Server, you need local administrator rights.
The Tricentis License Server is installed under the user account that is currently logged into the machine. If you want to uninstall the Tricentis License Server, you need to perform the uninstallation under the same user account. Note that Windows doesn't provide uninstallation options for software installed under a different user account.
Ports required by the license server
The Tricentis License Server requires the following ports:
Default Port |
Transport Protocol |
Application Protocol |
Direction |
Configurable |
---|---|---|---|---|
7070 |
TCP |
HTTP |
Inbound, Outbound |
Yes |
443 |
TCP |
HTTPS |
Inbound, Outbound |
No |
Port 443 is needed for communication with the backend. This does not apply to offline license servers.
Configure the Java Runtime Environment
As of version 2.0.0, the Tricentis License Server setup no longer contains Java.
To configure the Java Runtime Environment, follow the steps below:
-
Install Oracle Java Runtime Environment or OpenJDK (64-bit) version 8 or 11 (recommended).
-
Create a system environment variable named JAVA_HOME that refers to the Java installation directory. If you already have a user environment variable named JAVA_HOME, make sure that it refers to the same Java installation directory.
The path to the Java installation directory must not be wrapped in quotation marks. For example: C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_211 "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_211" |
Move to a new license server machine
If you want to switch your on-premise license server from one machine to another, you first need to transfer your active licenses. To do so, follow the steps below:
-
Install the Tricentis License Server on the new machine.
-
Deactivate the licenses on the old machine.
-
Activate the licenses on the new machine, using either the online or the offline method.
Do not uninstall the Tricentis License Server from the old license server machine without first deactivating the licenses on it. If you do this, the licenses are blocked and you can't activate them on the new license server machine. |
