Editing Users

If you have LiveCompare Administrator privileges, you can edit the details for any LiveCompare user account as follows. Changes made to a user account take effect the next time the user logs in to LiveCompare.

  1. Select a user from the Administration/Users folder in the LiveCompare hierarchy. Alternatively, select the Users folder and choose a username from the list of registered users.
  2. Modify the fields in the Edit User Profile screen as follows:
Field Description

Username:

Enter a new username for the account. If the user account was imported from an LDAP server, this field should not be modified unless the username for the LDAP account has been changed.

Role:

Select either ‘LiveCompare Consumer’ or ‘LiveCompare Editor’ to specify a new role for the user. LiveCompare Consumers or Editors may not be changed to the Administrator role, and the default ‘admin’ user account created when LiveCompare was installed may not have its role modified.

Description:

Enter a new description for the user account.

Email address:

Enter a new email address for the user.

Password:

Enter a new password for the user account, and confirm the password in the ‘Confirm Password:’ field. Note that LiveCompare passwords are case-sensitive. These fields are not available for user accounts imported from an LDAP server.

User must change password at next login

Select this check box to require that the user changes their password when they next log in to LiveCompare. This field is not available for user accounts imported from an LDAP server.

DevOps Teams: Select the DevOps teams to which the user is to be assigned. Users are able to access Apps that have been assigned to matching DevOps categories (as well as Apps that have not been assigned to a category).
  1. Click ‘Save’ to save your changes.

A user account may be renamed by selecting it from the Users folder in the LiveCompare hierarchy and choosing ‘Rename’ from the context menu. Alternatively, select a user in the hierarchy and press F2. If the user account was imported from an LDAP server, it should not be renamed unless the username for the LDAP account has been changed.

If a user account is renamed, the new name is reflected in all the projects of which the user is a member.

Editors

If you have LiveCompare Editor privileges and your account was created manually in LiveCompare, you can change your LiveCompare password as follows:

  1. Select your username from the Administration/Users folder in the LiveCompare hierarchy. Alternatively, highlight the Users folder and select your username from the list of users. The Edit User Profile screen is shown for your user account.
  2. Enter a new password in the ‘Password:’ and ‘Confirm Password:’ fields. Note that LiveCompare passwords are case-sensitive.
  3. Click ‘Save’ to save your changes.

Consumers

If you have LiveCompare Consumer privileges and account was created manually in LiveCompare, you can change your LiveCompare password by clicking the ‘change password’ link on the Home screen.

If your user account was imported from an LDAP server, it is not possible to edit your account details.

Strong Passwords

The requirement for strong passwords may be set during the installation of LiveCompare, or afterwards by an Administrator in the Configuration - Security screen. A password must match all the following criteria to be considered strong:

  • At least 8 characters.
  • At least 1 upper case character.
  • At least 1 lowercase character.
  • At least 1 number.
  • At least 1 special character from this list: ` ¬ ¦ ! " £ $ € ^ & * ( ) - = + [ ] { } ; : ' @ # ~ \ | < > , . / ? <space>

A label next to the password field indicates the strength of the password as you type it. The requirement for strong passwords applies to native accounts only, and not to the passwords for user accounts imported from an LDAP server.
