Defect Workflow Settings

If your qTest project is not integrated with an external tool like Jira, Rally, or VersionOne, you can define transition rules and enable auto-population for the Closed Date field of certain statuses for your qTest Defects using the Defect Workflow Settings page. For more details on qTest Defects, refer to Using the Defects Module.

If you are cloning a project, you can also clone the pre-established Defect Workflow Settings. For more details on this feature, refer to the Projects guide.

Manage Transition Rules

  1. Project Admins can limit their users’ permission to update Defect Status by defining Transition Rules of the Defect Workflow. The Defect Workflow defines Defect Status transitions and which User Profile can perform these transitions.

  2. In your qTest Project, select the Gear icon.

  3. In the drop-down menu, select Defect Workflow Settings.

  4. In the Manage Transition Rules section, define and enable the workflow. You must turn on the Activation Status by selecting the toggle.

  5. To add or remove Transition Rules, use the Add or Remove icons in the Action column.

  6. To temporarily disable a Transition Rule, deselect the Active check box.

  7. To define a Transition Rule, you will need to select appropriate From status values, To status values and User Profiles. You can mark Any to capture any Status or User Profile values regardless of whether they have been created.

  8. Save.

Workflow

Once the Workflow is enabled, you can preview the Workflow when updating Defect Status on the Defect Details page. It will only list out the Transition Rules that are associated with your log in User Profile.

Updating Defects using the Batch Update or Import Defects functions will also need to follow the Transition Rules.

Auto Populate Closed Date for Defects

Project Admins can enable this feature for internal defect statuses on a per Project basis. The statuses that are enabled, auto-populates the Closed Date field for internal defects when those enabled statuses are used.

  1. Turn on the Activation status toggle for the Auto Populate Closed Date for Defects section.

  2. Select a defect status from the drop-down in the available field.

  3. To add an additional status, click the Add Status button in the Action column and select an additional defect status from the drop-down.

  4. Add more defect statuses, depending on your workflow.

  5. Save.

Legacy Edit Defect Screen

Project admins can enable Legacy Edit Defect Screen to allow users to open and edit Data Query defects in a pop-up next to the defect list.

Without this feature enabled, users open all defects in a new window or tab.
