Test Case Settings

The Test Case Settings screen allows you to set up Test Case sharing with other projects and allows teams to add parameters to their Test Steps.

To access the Test Case Settings screen, select the Gear icon and choose Test Case Settings from the drop-down menu.

Parameterization Settings

Parameters are enabled for every project by default. If you disable these options, you will need to manually correct your parameters in qTest Parameters. In the Parameterization Settings section, you can change the feature's activation status and select whether Parameters from the current Project can be used in Test Cases shared to the Project or Test Cases copied to the Project.

By default, the activation status is ON, and the options are selected. If you plan not to use Parameters in your project, it is recommended to deactivate this option to prevent users from adding Parameters.

The following options allow Parameters from the current Project to be used in any destination Project. In the examples provided, Parameters need to be automatically assigned to qTest Manager Projects for Test Runs to be executable.

  • For test cases shared from this project. Create Test Runs in Project P2 from a shared Test Case in Project P1. If Parameters in the Test Cases are not assigned to P2, the Test Runs may not be executable in P2.

  • For test cases copied from this project. Copy Test Cases or Test Steps from Project P1 to Project P2. If Parameters in the source Test Case are not assigned to P2, you may not be able to create Test Runs from the destination Test Case in P2.

Test Case Sharing

qTest features the ability to create Test Runs in one project from others' shared Test Cases. For more information, refer to Reuse Test Cases.

Unlinked Test Cases

Tracking Test Case - Requirement Link Per Test Case Version

This section is used to track links between Test Cases and Requirements by Test Case version. Activating this option allows you to sort Requirements based on version. When this feature is activated, linking or unlinking Requirements will increase the Test Case's minor version.

When this option is activated, existing data will be migrated to the new versioning. By default, all existing links will be associated with the most recent Test Case version. During the data migration, users will be unable to link or unlink Requirements to Test Cases. Once the migration is complete, a message will appear on the Test Case page or the Test Run page, prompting users to refresh their connection to see the latest data.

By default, this option is activated for new users of qTest and deactivated for current users of qTest. In addition, the Manage Test Case Settings permission is required to change this setting.

AI Generated Test Cases

After you turn on AI integration at the site level, you need to activate the Test Case Generation feature in each individual project where you want to use it. This is to make sure you have full control over the permissions and access that any AI Copilot function has for each individual project you manage.

To activate AI Generated Test Cases in the project that you're working in, follow these steps:

  1. Select the gear icon and go to Test Case Settings.

  2. Scroll down to AI Generated Test Cases and change the Activation Status for the features you want to use to On.

Note that this feature is currently in Beta, so some features may not work as expected at this time.
