Return idle licenses

If you close Tosca Commander, the system immediately returns all licenses you had in use. However, if you are running Tricentis Tosca Commander, but not actively using it, these licenses are blocked.

You can adjust your Options so that Tosca Commander automatically returns idle licenses after a specified amount of time.

This is not true for licenses that are tied to your local machine:

Tosca Commander does not return them upon closing, nor can you configure it to return idle licenses.

Change Options to return idle licenses

To return idle licenses automatically, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to Options->Advanced.

  2. Modify the option Return Licenses on Idle Timeout (Minutes). To set an interval (in minutes) after which idle licenses should be returned, enter the desired numeric value. The numeric value must be higher than 0.

    The default value is -1. This indicates that the option is turned off, i.e. Tosca Commander does not return idle licenses.

In the example below, you have configured Tosca Commander to return idle licenses after 20 minutes:

Example: Return idle licenses after 20 minutes

Once the specified time has expired, Tosca Commander informs idle users with a pop-up. This pop-up also contains a count-down.

To stop the count-down and return to active state, click Cancel.

Return countdown

If you do not, Tosca Commander locks the user interface and returns all licenses once the count-down has finished.

To return Tosca Commander to active and reclaim the licenses you were using, click Reclaim.
