Using Bookmarks in Tricentis Analytics

Overview

When you analyze data, you might find something interesting that you want to return to or share with others. Using Bookmarks is an easy way to keep track of a specific selection state on a Sheet. This topic provides you with information on how and why you would want to use Bookmarks in your App.

Understanding Bookmarks

Bookmarks save your data analysis selections and a particular location. They can be opened later to restore the selections to a former state. You can apply Bookmarked selections to any Sheet that has the same data, as the Sheet initially used to create the Bookmark.

Create Bookmarks

To create Bookmarks, follow these steps:

  1. Make the selections on the Sheet that you want to save as a Bookmark.

  2. Select the Bookmark Icon.

  3. In the "Bookmarks" window, select Create new bookmark. The title will be comprised of both the name of the Sheet and summary of the selections. You can also enter an optional description.

  4. The Bookmark is automatically saved.

States and Set Expressions

When you create or edit a Bookmark, you will see the states (versions) that have been bookmarked. If a state includes selections, then the set Expression for those selections will be shown. You can copy the set Expression by selecting Copy.

Apply Bookmark Selections

You can apply the selections saved in a Bookmark to all Sheets and Visualizations in the App.

To apply selections do the following:

  1. In the Sheet view, select the Gear icon in the toolbar.

  2. Long-touch or right-click the Bookmark you want to apply selections from and select Apply selections.

    • If there are no selections saved in the Bookmark, the Apply selections option is disabled.
  3. The selections saved in the Bookmark are now applied. Any previous selections are cleared.
You can also apply the Bookmark selections from the App Overview using the same procedures.

Setting Default Bookmarks

Setting default Bookmarks for an App allows users to see the Bookmarkselections you specified, when they open the Sheets in your Published App.

Consider the following when using default Bookmarks:

  • You can only set or remove a default Bookmark in an Unpublished App.
  • Only one default Bookmark per App.
  • You can clear the default Bookmark when viewing a Sheet. However, it will be reapplied when you re-open or reload the Sheet.
  • In a Published App, the user can clear the default Bookmark and make other selections. However, it is re-applied when the user re-opens or reloads the Sheet.
  • When you duplicate an App, the default bookmark is also applied.

To set a default Bookmark, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Bookmark icon in the toolbar of a Sheet and the Bookmarks window opens.

  2. Right-click an existing Bookmark, and then select Set selections as app default. An icon is added beside the Bookmark indicating that it is the App default.

  3. Select the Bookmark to close the window. The Bookmark is shown in the top toolbar, and the selections are shown in the App.

  4. To test that the default Bookmark is working properly, close and then reopen the App. It should display when you open a Sheet.

To remove a bookmark as the default, open the Bookmarks window in an unpublished app, and then right-click the default bookmark. Select Remove selections as app default.
