Change qTest TestEvents
You can integrate Tricentis Tosca and qTest. This allows you to manage your test objectives and releases in qTest, with the results from your automated tests in Tosca.
However, testing needs can change. Over time, you may want to add additional tests to drill down to specific areas of your system under test. Or remove tests you no longer need.
You can always modify your qTest TestEvents, so they contain the latest and best state of your tests.
Tricentis strongly recommends that you maintain your automated tests in Tricentis Tosca. Don't just rename, reorder, or delete linked objects in qTest. |
The difference between qTest TestEvents and "regular" TestEvents
qTest TestEvents differ from "regular" TestEvents in one major way: qTest TestEvents contain TestMandates instead of ExecutionLists (see chapter "Which objects does Tricentis Tosca create?").
If you make changes to your ExecutionLists, you also need to update the corresponding TestMandates.
Make modifications
You can make various changes to your tests. Expand the dropdowns below to get detailed information on how to update your qTest TestEvent in Tosca:
These are your next steps:
-
Rename the folder that contains all TestMandates for this qTest TestEvent. This isn't mandatory. However, Tricentis recommends that you keep naming consistent to avoid confusion later on.
These are your next steps:
-
Rename the TestMandate for this ExecutionList. This isn't mandatory. However, Tricentis recommends that you keep naming consistent to avoid confusion later on.
Tricentis Tosca automatically updates the TestCase name in the ExecutionList and the TestMandate. You don't need to make any additional changes in Tosca itself.
To transfer the information to qTest, you need to perform two updates:
-
Update the qTest TestEvent to change the name of the corresponding Test Run in the Test Execution tab in qTest.
-
Update the TestCase itself to change the name of the linked TestCase in the Test Design tab in qTest.
Note: you only need to do this if the TestCase is part of a qTest TestEvent. For information on changing TestCases that you link directly to qTest, see chapter "Change linked TestCases".
You don't need to do anything. Tricentis Tosca automatically makes all necessary updates.
These are your next steps:
-
Go to the folder that contains all TestMandates for this qTest TestEvent.
-
Create a new TestMandate in this folder.
-
Drag and drop the new ExecutionList onto the new TestMandate.
-
Drag and drop the new TestMandate onto your qTest TestEvent.
These are your next steps:
-
Go to the folder that contains all TestMandates for this qTest TestEvent.
-
Remove the TestMandate(s) for the ExecutionList(s) that you deleted.
-
Go to the qTest TestEvent and remove the broken references.
-
This cuts off the link between the tests you deleted in Tosca and their corresponding Test Cycle in qTest. However, it doesn't delete the Test Cycle in qTest, which means you keep the results of past test runs. If you don't want to keep results, delete the Test Cycle in qTest.
These are your next steps:
-
Select the new ExecutionEntries that you added to your ExecutionList.
-
Drag and drop them onto the TestMandate for this ExecutionList.
These are your next steps:
-
Go to the folder that contains all TestMandates for this qTest TestEvent.
-
Identify the TestMandate for the ExecutionList from which you removed your tests.
-
Delete the tests from the TestMandate.
-
This cuts off the link between the tests you deleted in Tosca and their corresponding Test Run in qTest. However, it doesn't delete the Test Run in qTest, which means you keep the results of past test runs. If you don't want to keep results, delete the Test Run in qTest.
To change the order of tests in your qTest TestEvent, rearrange the ExecutionEntries in the TestMandate for this ExecutionList.
You don't need to update the qTest TestEvent since you can't change the order of the corresponding Test Runs in qTest. That's okay: no matter where you trigger a test run, Tricentis Tosca executes the tests in the order you have specified in your TestMandate.
For information on how to carry over qTest TestEvents to new Test Cycles or Releases, see chapter "Reuse qTest TestEvents in other Test Cycles or Releases".
Delete qTest TestEvents
If you don't need a qTest TestEvent anymore, you can unlink and delete it. For more information, see chapter "Remove qTest links".
What's next
When you make modifications to a qTest TestEvent in Tosca, you need to transfer the information to qTest. Click here to learn more about updating links.
Once you've done so, run your updated tests.
