Tosca qTest integration
You can integrate Tricentis Tosca and qTest, which allows you to combine the best of both worlds:
-
qTest's Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) integration and release planning
-
Tricentis Tosca's automation capabilities
When to use what
qTest is available on premise or as a cloud-based product. In qTest, plan your releases and link them to requirements, i.e. your test objectives. You can use the requirements that you specified in your ALM tools, for instance Jira. For more information on working with qTest, see the qTest documentation.
Tricentis Tosca is your on-premise automation platform. Here is where you design automated tests and create all necessary links between Tricentis Tosca and qTest.
For more information on the basic workflow, see chapter "Basic workflow" below.
Prerequisites
To integrate Tricentis Tosca and qTest, you must fulfill the following requirements:
-
You use qTest version 9.9.4 or later.
-
You are a user of an existing qTest project.
-
You are a user of an existing Tricentis Tosca workspace, either single-user or multiuser.
-
You have the qTest user permissions listed in the qTest documentation (see "Prerequisites").
Basic workflow
To integrate Tricentis Tosca and qTest, follow the steps below:
-
In qTest, set up your basic release structure:
-
Create a release and builds.
-
Link requirements to your release.
-
Optionally, create manual TestCases.
-
You don't have to create manual TestCases in qTest. You can link existing TestCases from Tricentis Tosca to qTest, which creates the necessary objects in qTest.
-
In qTest, activate the Automation Settings as described in the qTest documentation.
-
In Tricentis Tosca, design your automated TestCases:
-
Scan your application to create Modules.
-
Create TestSteps from these Modules.
You can also create your TestSteps from the Modules of the Standard subset.
-
Steer your application (see chapter "Steer with Engines 3.0" and chapter "Steer with Classic Engines").
For more information on creating tests in Tricentis Tosca, see chapter "Plan, create and execute tests".
-
-
Link your automated tests with qTest.
Linking your tests to qTest allows you to keep an overview of their results in qTest. You can always update links.
You can also link existing qTest test cases to Tricentis Tosca. See the qTest documentation for more information.
-
Run your tests in qTest. For more information on running tests in qTest and checking results, see the qTest documentation.
Please note that step 4 is only available for multi-user workspaces and Elite qTest users.
